I was born in Corfu in 1927. We were a large family: my father, my mother and three sisters. I was the eldest. I went to a Greek-Jewish school. I spoke Greek with my father because he was from Kefalonia; with my mother, we spoke an Italian dialect. If I happen to speak it now, it all comes back to me…
Only my father and I returned. No one else. I had an eight-year-old sister who went with my mother and they left on the first night…
